Hello Folks! Welcome to Our Blog.

The Amiga is a family of personal computers introduced by Commodore in Based on the Motorola microprocessorthe Amiga differed from its contemporaries through the inclusion of custom hardware to accelerate graphics and sound, including sprites and a blitterand a pre-emptive multitasking operating system called AmigaOS.

The Amiga was released in Julybut a series of production problems kept it from becoming widely available until early The best selling model, the Amigawas introduced in and became one of the leading home computers of the late s and early s with four to six million sold. Finally, the A and the A were released in late The platform became particularly popular for gaming and programming demos.

It also found a prominent role in the desktop videovideo productionand show control business, leading to video editing systems such as the Video Toaster. The Amiga's native ability to simultaneously play back multiple digital sound samples made it a popular platform for early tracker music software.

The relatively powerful processor and ability to access several megabytes of memory enabled the development of 3D rendering packages, including LightWave 3DImagineAladdin4DTurboSilver and Traces, a predecessor to Blender. Although early Commodore advertisements attempt to cast the computer as an all-purpose business machine, especially when outfitted with the Amiga Sidecar PC compatibility add-on, the Amiga was most commercially successful as a home computer, with a wide range of games and creative software.

Today, it's obvious the Amiga was the first multimedia computer, but in those days it was derided as a game machine because few people grasped the importance of advanced graphics, sound, and video. Nine years later, vendors are still struggling to make systems that work like Amigas.

Jay Miner joined Atari in the s to develop custom integrated circuitsand led development of the Atari 's TIA. With the 8-bit line's launch inthe team once again started looking at a next generation chipset.

Nolan Bushnell had sold the company to Warner Communications inand the new management was much more interested in the existing lines than development of new products that might cut into their sales. Miner wanted to start work with the new Motorolabut management was only interested in another based system. Miner left the company, and, for a time, the industry. InLarry Kaplan left Atari and founded Activision.

InKaplan was approached by a number of investors who wanted to develop a new game platform. Kaplan hired Miner to run the hardware side of the newly formed company, "Hi-Toro". The system was code-named "Lorraine" in keeping with Miner's policy of giving systems female names, in this case the company president's wife, Lorraine Morse. At the time, the operating system was not ready, so the machine was demonstrated with the Boing Ball demo.

A further developed version of the system was demonstrated at the June CES and shown to many companies in hopes of garnering further funding, but found little interest in a market that was in the final stages of the North American video game crash of If you go out and buy a computer right now, how many choices do you really have?

In the early years of personal computing there were a slew of serious contenders. A PC, a Mac, an Atari ST, an Amiga, and several more that all demanded serious consideration on the general purpose desktop computer market.

Of all these platforms, the Amiga somehow stubbornly refuses to die. The catch: it does require all the custom Amiga chips from a donor board. The original Amiga was a significant upgrade to the architecture of the s originals, and this certainly provides a much-needed enhancement to its underwhelming 68EC processor. The board looks pretty bare. I think the original Amiga boards had more passives, particularly more decoupling.

All I could find on the schematic is a single. Not just for decoupling the power lines, they had a load for EMI filtering on every connector, and also for cleaning up various clocks and strobes that were notoriously noisy. Yeah on the current revision I am working on, I added a lot more decoupling on the chips. The PCB is still work in progress…. How is this better than the original? What CPU is used? Looks to me like the RasPi Amiga might be the best choice.

No information about this in the article or the site it links to. One would think this would be front and center. Is it not a personal computer? Basically IBM unintentionally? With the introduction of thethey turned everything on its head by offering a business-class computer that could fit on your desk and was affordable enough for a small business …or even a single person!!!

It was a marketing term that became a generic once all personal computers became PCs. Not quite. Few models had it. Firewire was pretty much the only newer interface Apple not only adopted first but also supported extensively. But it had a FireWire port! Mac had become PC by adopting all the various bits of hardware that PCs had first.

Even the Mac motherboard form factor was very close to the BTX form factor. Without being detrimental towards the original we obviously all love. Can those original chips be replaced by FPGA? Every computer people own is a personal computer regardless. This reminds me I should try to fix one A I got from a friend, or make my mind and put it in the trash. Search twitter for aplusplus.

First I need to conjure something from available materials to use as a display.

John: R well I will maybe make two versions of it. Well as I kind of disagree with the products goal. Michal: Will you do some addons to the Paula chip so that it produces bit instead of bit sound quality? Pamela is not my cup of tea. The AmigaOne and AmigaOS4 are projects that have occupied almost every day of our lives for the last two years. For the community, the wait and the false dawns have been unbearable. This AmigaOne project was cancelled in the design stage inmostly due to the inability to find or design a suitable northbridge chip. The G4 module originally used a Freescale processor which was later changed to a Freescaleboth without level 3 cache. The G4 CPU runs hotter and requires a better heatsink than that supplied on some machines.

In Acube offered 1. Due to the mistaken belief that the on-board AC97 audio could not be supported, the AC97 codec was removed from later builds of the motherboard.

The technical issues preventing AC97 audio support were later resolved. When the AmigaOne boards first became available, AmigaOS 4 was not ready: they were supplied with various Linux distributions.

The full system is to be designated as the AmigaOne A AmigaOS 4 was released for the Sam in October AmigaOS 4 was released for the Samex in January The Amiga computer was a legend in its time. Back when the Macintosh had only a monochrome 9-inch screen, and the PC managed just four colors and monotone beeps, the Amiga boasted a bit graphical operating system in full color with stereo-sampled sound and preemptive multitasking.

It was like a machine from the future. The platform, like many others before it, seemed to be at an end. So when a brand new Amiga computer arrived at my doorstep inyou can imagine it was quite a surprise. Accordingly, the Amiga X is a curious beast. In some respects, it's more closely related to its predecessors than either modern PCs or Macintoshes. Yet this is a fully current machine capable of taking on modern workloads. The Amiga has a long history of PowerPC support, starting with add-on accelerator cards released in using the old Motorola and chips.

And since the release of Amiga OS 4. On the back of the motherboard are six USB ports, two Ethernet jacks, and a serial port for debugging. The motherboard came enclosed in an attractive black tower case, with a power and reset button and two USB ports on the top for easy access. The model I received was a pre-production version, so it did not have a silkscreened Amiga Boing Ball logo on the outside, but I was assured by Aaron Smith of the independent reseller Amiga On The Lake that the final versions would be properly adorned.

The X is very quiet in operation. Overall, the hardware is a mix between custom Amiga parts and standard PC hardware, but the marriage is a happy one. Gone are the days when Commodore would design its own unique cases for each Amiga, but the ability to use off-the-shelf PC cases and components is a worthwhile tradeoff.

At this point you can hit the Enter key to get to the boot menu. Booting to AmigaOS 4.

Unlike with Windows, as soon as you can see the desktop everything is ready to go. If you have speakers hooked up, the OS will welcome you with a pleasant chime. The Amiga operating system has a long and interesting history.

Unlike its contemporaries in the s—the character-mode, single-tasking k-limited DOS and the monochromatic MacOS—it was already a fully bit, pre-emptive multitasking operating system at its inception. As such, it had fewer technological leaps necessary to bring it up to date.

AmigaOS 4.The A was considered the baby brother of the A and was a very popular low-end machine of the early 's and is still popular among Amiga users today. It's probably the most common Amiga model still in regular use in vastly expanded forms.

The A came with a very poorly rated power supply only 23w so it was common practice to purchase third party power supplies or even use A power supplies they are compatible which have a higher wattage 65w?
